Complex applications to Civil Protection carried out in UTA Gagauzia
On October 24, 2025, complex tactical applications in the field of civil protection were carried out in UTA Gagauzia. The exercises were carried out based on a realistic scenario, which assumed the occurrence of a major earthquake on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
According to the scenario, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7 degrees on a scale of 12, with the epicenter in the Vrancea area, generated significant destruction in the localities of the autonomy. Following the earthquake, the district Commission for Extraordinary Situations was urgently convened, and the civil protection formations, IGSU teams and other emergency services were put on alert to manage the created situations.
One of the main locations of the application was Budjac commune in Comrat municipality, where building collapses and a fire broke out in a high-rise institution were reported. The intervention teams acted to save the people stuck under the rubble, evacuate the victims from the upper floors, put out the fire and provide first medical aid. At the same time, the specialized services carried out work to remedy the faults that appeared in the electrical and communication networks, to restore the infrastructure.
as part of the applications, firefighters and civil protection formations also intervened at a gymnasium in the locality, where they organized the evacuation of students and teaching staff, providing first aid to the injured.
Also, a road accident was simulated on the R-28 route, near the village of Budjac, where the intervention teams acted to unblock and save the victims and transport them to the district hospital.
Also within the applications, the detection of an outbreak of bird flu in a private household was also simulated, where civil protection formations and specialized services acted to isolate and disinfect the area and prevent the spread of the infection.
The scenario also included the implementation of measures to liquidate the consequences of the possible collapse of the protective dam of the water reservoir in Comrat municipality. Within them, civil protection formations, IGSU teams and other specialized services intervened to prevent floods, evacuate the population at risk and protect material assets. At the same time, they acted to extinguish vegetation fires that broke out near the forest surroundings, limiting the spread of outbreaks and reducing the impact on the environment.
The applications were carried out in accordance with Government Decision no. 850/2024 and are part of the calendar plan regarding training in the field of civil protection of the Republic of Moldova for the year 2025.
We note that such exercises are organized once every five years in each district, with the aim of raising the level of training of the governing bodies and the civil protection forces for an effective and coordinated intervention in exceptional situations.
