National Risk Prevention Campaigns – GIES

Description:

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (GIES) organizes national information, awareness and prevention campaigns throughout the year, tailored to the season and depending on the scale and specificity of risks identified at the national level.

These campaigns are not limited to the autumn–winter period but run continuously, with specific themes for each season: cold season (heating, carbon monoxide poisoning, domestic fires), spring and summer (vegetation fires, drowning, heatwaves), school holidays, public holidays, etc.

The main objectives of the campaigns are:

  • Increasing public awareness of the specific risks associated with each season;
  • Educating citizens (children and adults) about basic safety rules;
  • Promoting individual responsibility and community solidarity;
  • Practical and interactive training (calling 112, using fire extinguishers, evacuation, first aid);
  • Significantly reducing the number of victims and material damage through active prevention.

Activities include briefings, home visits, lessons and workshops in schools, practical demonstrations, partnerships with local authorities, the 112 Service, social workers and international organizations.

The constant message of GIES is that prevention and each individual’s responsibility, together with care for vulnerable people, save lives in any season of the year.
