Children’s Safety School “Together We Reduce Risks”

The Children’s Safety School “Together We Reduce Risks” is an annual event dedicated to training young people in the prevention and management of risk situations. The activities take place at regional level, in accordance with the territorial organisation of the Exceptional Situations Directorates within the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (10 regions).

The Safety School is organised by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, through the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Research, through the General Education Directorate and the Republican Centre for Children and Youth “ARTICO”.

The event has an educational, instructive and sporting character, being designed to develop children’s and teenagers’ skills in responding to various types of hazards, to raise public awareness of climate change and to promote the prevention of risks associated with exceptional situations. At the same time, the initiative helps popularise the profession of rescuer and firefighter and promotes a healthy lifestyle among young people.

The overall objective of the Safety School is to provide children and teenagers with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and mitigate everyday risks and to better prepare them for unpredictable situations. The programme also aims to develop civic and patriotic spirit.

Teams of high-school students aged 15–17 who are eager to develop their safety skills and contribute to building a culture of safety in the community take part in the activities.

Over 1,000 Students Better Prepared for Emergencies After “Safety School – Together We Reduce Risks” – 2025 Edition

From 26–30 May 2025, the 7th edition of the national programme “Safety School – Together We Reduce Risks” took place. Over 1,000 students aged 15–17 from all regions of the Republic of Moldova (including 12 children from Ukrainian refugee families) participated in practical workshops and interactive contests, learning how to respond correctly to fires, earthquakes, floods, and other emergencies.

Through fire extinguishing exercises, first aid training, timed equipment drills, and team relays, the young participants developed teamwork, courage, and responsibility. The event was organised by the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Research and local authorities.

Outcome: 86 teams (1,032 participants) are now better equipped to prevent and manage emergencies – a major step towards safer and more resilient communities.
