The students of the "Vasile Alecsandri" Theoretical High School in Chisinau had a very special start to the week today, December 8, 2025, participating in a master class organized by the firefighters and rescuers of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.

The event offered students not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical experiences, aimed at developing essential skills in the field of life safety basics, contributing to the formation of a more informed and safer generation.

The day started with an evacuation drill, organized to test the level of preparation of students and teaching staff in the event of a fire, earthquake or other risk situations. About 700 students participated in this exercise, who practiced their skills of quick reaction, discipline and calmness in emergency situations.

After the evacuation drill, the students took part in a series of interactive and educational activities conducted by firefighters, SMURD paramedics and the canine team. The firefighters presented them with the essential rules of behavior in case of fire, earthquake and other risk situations. At the same time, the students had the opportunity to use a fire extinguisher, to learn the correct intervention techniques in case of exceptional situations.

Firefighters also drew attention to the risks associated with the cold period and the winter holiday. They discussed the danger of ice on rivers and ponds, but also the risks that children can be exposed to both at home and outside the home, giving them practical advice for preventing incidents and fires in the cold season.

The SMURD paramedics explained the correct first aid steps to the students, giving them the opportunity to practice resuscitation maneuvers on mannequins. Thus, the students understood how important the immediate reaction is in emergency situations, but also personal responsibility in saving a life.

The educational atmosphere was completed by the interventions of four-legged rescuers. The cynologists told the students about the search and rescue missions, about the dogs' involvement in real situations and about their participation in international missions, such as the intervention in Turkey to support the earthquake victims.  Presentations included engaging demonstrations and stories about human-animal collaboration in saving human lives.

At the end of the activities, the students had the opportunity to explore the emergency vehicles and learn details about the noble work of firefighters, people who risk their lives every day to save other lives.  The experience was appreciated by students and teachers, providing them with both satisfaction and valuable practical training.

IGSU periodically organizes such activities in the educational institutions of the country, placing a special emphasis on the preventive education of students, in order to prevent risk situations and the formation of life safety skills among the younger generations. Such initiatives contribute significantly to increasing children's awareness and responsibility in the face of dangers.
