The Republic of Moldova participates in the 55th Meeting of the General Directors for Civil Protection from the member states and the states participating in the Civil Protection Mechanism of the European Union
The Republic of Moldova is participating in the 55th Meeting of the General Directors for Civil Protection from the member states and the states participating in the Civil Protection Mechanism of the European Union.
At the event, our country is represented by the head of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, colonel of the internal service, Aurel Baciu. At the same time, the deputy head of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, lieutenant-colonel of the internal service, Alexandr Tatarov, also participates in the meeting.
The Republic of Moldova takes part in this event for the fourth time as a full member of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, a status it obtained on January 1, 2024.
The event takes place on November 19-20, 2025 in the city of Copenhagen, Kingdom of Denmark, held under the auspices of the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The meeting represents the most important European forum dedicated to cooperation in the field of civil protection, with the aim of coordinating and implementing the new regulations regarding the Civil Protection Mechanism of the European Union.
during the meeting, various essential topics regarding the strengthening of European cooperation in the field of civil protection are addressed. A central topic of the discussions is the preparation process for the implementation of the rescEU initiative, which represents the strengthening component of the European civil protection mechanism and is intended to improve the continuous cooperation between the EU and the member states.
The implementation of this mechanism aims to facilitate and coordinate effectively in the field of civil protection, in terms of prevention, preparation and response to natural and man-made disasters.
during the event, the officials also address other important aspects, such as preparing for the next season of forest fires in Europe, strengthening national resilience in the context of increasing security risks, as well as actions from the European Strategy for preparedness and exercises in the field of civil protection.
During the event, the IGSU leadership held bilateral discussions aimed at strengthening partnerships with the authorities responsible for civil protection in Romania, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Montenegro and Slovenia. Totodată, au fost inițiate demersurile pentru o nouă colaborare cu Italia în domeniul protecției civile și al apărării împotriva incendiilor.
At the same time, within the Mechanism, the participation of Moldovan rescuers and firefighters in the pre-positioning missions in Greece, within the European Program for the Pre-positioning of Forest Fire Fighting Teams, was appreciated.
Moreover, also within the PC Mechanism, the Republic of Moldova is going to host an international field exercise with the flood scenario "EU MODEX Moldova 2026" in June 2026.
The annual participation of the leadership of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations at the Meeting of General Directors for Civil Protection reaffirms the commitment to strengthening European cooperation in the field of civil protection and the active contribution of our country to the development of common response capabilities in emergency situations at the European level.
