IGSU participated in the 4th edition of the Festival of Volunteer Firefighters Today, October 18, 2025
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations participated in the 4th edition of the Volunteer Firemen's Festival, held in Gura Bîcului, Anenii Noi district.
The event was dedicated to recognizing the courage and solidarity of heroes who risk their lives for the safety of communities, with the aim of promoting volunteerism in the field of emergency situations, but also strengthening cooperation between volunteer fire stations. The event was organized by Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova in partnership with the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the MAI and Gura Bîcului City Hall, within the project "EU4 Resilient Moldova: Secure State, Strong Communities", financed by the European Union.
The festival was attended by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mrs. Daniella Misaill-Nichitin, the head of the IGSU, represented by Colonel Aurel Baciu, the country director of Solidarity Fund PL, Mr. Tomasz Horbowski, as well as the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Tomasz Kobzdej and the Ambassador of the European Union, Mrs. Iwona Piorko, who expressed appreciation for the commitment and collaboration of volunteer firefighters in developing a safety culture in communities.
In his speech, Colonel Aurel Baciu mentioned that the activity of volunteer firefighters significantly reduces the response time and in many cases contributes to saving human lives, and IGSU supports and provides all the necessary support for the development of volunteerism among firefighters.
The event was also attended by representatives of the Polish State Fire Service, who shared experiences regarding community involvement in actions to prevent risk situations. The festival brought together more than 150 volunteer firefighters and rescuers from across the country, who demonstrated their speed and team spirit in two exciting events: the "Combat Run from the Emergency Vehicle", which tested their coordination, and the "Obstacle Course", an individual test of strength and endurance.
The festival was also a celebration for the whole community. Visitors discovered stands with local products and handicrafts, and children enjoyed a dedicated area with educational activities, cardboard fire engine cutting workshops, an exhibition of emergency equipment and techniques, a virtual reality game and an artistic program with music, dances and good cheer.
in the Republic of Moldova, at the moment, 22 volunteer firefighters and rescuers are active, with 161 volunteers actively involved, dedicated to the mission of protecting lives and property, promptly intervening in support of the population until the arrival of specialized crews.
