IGSU launched the national campaign "Do you know what your child is doing at home?" – a call for responsibility and prevention
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations has launched an unprecedented national campaign with the title "Do you know what your child is doing at home?" - a risk awareness initiative addressed to parents, teachers and the whole society.
The start of the campaign took place today, October 22, 2025 at the Security School of the IGSU in Chisinau.
The campaign was launched in the context of increasing risks to which children are exposed, especially during school holidays and holidays, when they spend more time at home, often unsupervised. Seemingly trivial situations such as a faulty electrical cable, a forgotten cigarette lighter, an open window can quickly turn into real dangers.
According to IGSU statistical data, in the first 9 months of 2025, 37 fires caused by children playing with fire were recorded, most of them in rural areas, between 12:00 and 20:00 – the interval when children are not at school and often remain unsupervised. Most of the children involved are boys, between the ages of 7 and 10.
This data clearly shows us that there is a risk profile, and the activities of the national campaign will be precisely mapped and directed towards this vulnerable category.
the head of the IGSU, colonel Aurel Baciu, the director of the 112 Service, Mr. Anatolie Viniciu, and representatives of UNICEF Moldova participated in the launch event. They held a press briefing during which they presented the purpose of the campaign, the planned activities, the expected results, but also offered recommendations to prevent risks among children.
At the same time, the officials emphasized the importance of uniting inter-institutional efforts, but also the active involvement of each adult in the child's life, in order to educate a responsible generation aware of the dangers in the environment.
Moreover, the officials mentioned that through a joint effort between institutions, schools, parents and the community, we can give children not only knowledge, but also concrete skills to prevent and react to risks and exceptional situations.
Also, during the event, several groups of students participated in a guided tour of the Security School premises, visited the training rooms and interacted directly with firefighters and 112 Service operators.
The students were trained how to react in case of fire, earthquake or other exceptional situations, how to correctly call the Emergency Services 112 and what information to provide to the operators.
Thus, the children had the opportunity to learn safe behaviors, participate in practical simulations and find out how they can protect their own lives and those around them.
At the end of the activities, the students attended a master-class held by firefighters, where they were instructed how to use a fire extinguisher, having the opportunity to practice in realistic conditions.
The campaign activities will be carried out at national level and will include a series of educational and interactive actions, aimed at minimizing the risks to which children are exposed and promoting a culture of safety among them, together with parents, teachers and the whole community.
