The IGSU delegation undertakes a study visit to Finland within the MD -ALERT -STUDY Project
During the period 25 - 27 June 2024, the IGSU delegation from the Republic of Moldova undertakes a study visit to Helsinki, Finland, in the context of the MD – ALERT – STUDY Project, funded by the European Union under the Technical Assistance for Disaster Risk Management Programme (UCP-2023-TRACK1-IBA). At the beginning of the visit, the Inspectorate's specialists and the institution's leadership, represented by Colonel Alexandru Oprea, had a meeting with the Deputy Head of the Rescue Department of the Ministry of the Interior of Finland, Mr. Jussi Korhonen. Both parties discussed Finland's experience in the successful implementation of the warning system in case of exceptional situations, as well as the technologies used in the field by European Union countries. During the event, experts from Finland and the Republic of Moldova are brought together with the aim of identifying the most effective population warning systems, in order to reduce loss of life, damage to property and the environment. At the same time, it is planned to examine national public alert systems, as well as to share information about counterpart organizations and decision-making processes related to the public alert system. Furthermore, the promotion of experience exchange between countries regarding disaster risk management will be carried out. Here, specialists will also identify the architecture of early warning systems, which must be flexible and adaptable, including alerting, observation, planning, notification, as well as data processing. The visit of the IGSU representatives from the Republic of Moldova to Helsinki is carried out with the purpose of studying the best practices, solutions and technologies in the field, as Finland is considered one of the European Union countries with a high-performance warning system. The Republic of Moldova is at the stage of conducting a feasibility study to see which of the existing technologies could be applicable to our country. The study, according to the project, is to be finalized in February 2025.
