IGSU campaign "You can what others need" - more than 19 thousand people informed about the risk of fires and carbon monoxide poisoning
More than 19 thousand people from all regions of the country were informed about preventive measures specific risks of the cold season in the housing sector. The activities have been carried out by IGSU employees in the campaign with the generic "You can what others need".
in this context, rescuers and firefighters went door to door, around people's households, discussing the dangers of improper use of stoves, boilers and other heating sources, as well as the major risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
IGSU specialists offered practical recommendations and distributed informational materials regarding the safety rules for the operation of heating sources, in order to prevent fires and poisoning with combustion products.
Citizens were urged to avoid overloading stoves, not to use flammable liquids such as gasoline or diesel, and not to leave fires unattended to prevent fires.
At the same time, people were asked to ensure permanent ventilation of the rooms where the burning process takes place, to keep the smoke exhaust channels free and to extinguish the fire in the stove at night or when leaving the house.
Citizens were also warned that flammable materials such as furniture or other textiles can easily catch fire and should be kept at a safe distance from heat sources. Furthermore, people were urged to use only the combustible materials intended for the type of stove operated, such as wood or coal.
A major priority in the campaign is to support the elderly and those who live alone, being more vulnerable to dangers.
in this sense, rescuers urged young people, neighbors, volunteers and community members to show solidarity and give help to these people to heat their homes. They are the ones who have supported us and guided us through life, and today they need our help. What for some is a simple gesture, for others it can mean saving a life.
Since the launch of the campaign, IGSU specialists have visited 5,537 private houses, and 5,474 stoves and smoke exhaust ducts have been evaluated.
in order to raise the level of awareness of the population, 19,441 people were trained on the safety rules for the exploitation of home heating sources.
At the same time, together with the subdivisions of the General Police Inspectorate, 18 meetings were organized and 343 joint actions were carried out, aimed at preventing fires and cases of carbon monoxide poisoning in the housing stock.
The campaign was launched on November 14, 2025 and will run until December 31, 2025. During this period, IGSU employees will visit localities in the south, center and north of the country, with the aim of increasing the level of information among the population and preventing fires and carbon monoxide poisoning, giving priority to the people who are most exposed to the risks.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations reminds that compliance with safety rules when using heating sources is essential to prevent fires and protect human lives.
