Carelessness while smoking has made another victim in the north of the country. The case took place in the evening of November 30, 2025, in a house in the village of Pererâta, Briceni district. The call to Service 112 was received at 21:01.

According to the recorded information, the flames contained the material goods inside a room with the area of ​​8 m² and partially the roof of the house. Two fire and rescue crews intervened on the scene. During the liquidation of the fire, the firefighters found the charred body of a 72-year-old man inside.

as a result of the research carried out by IGSU specialists, it was established that, most likely, the fire broke out due to imprudence while smoking. All the circumstances of the case are to be determined by the legal authorities.

in this regard, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations repeatedly warns citizens that failure to comply with safety rules while smoking can have fatal consequences. Rescuers urge people to avoid smoking indoors, especially near combustible or flammable materials.

People are also urged not to leave lit cigarettes unattended. Furthermore, in order to prevent fires, cigarettes must be extinguished in the ashtray with a little water, and then thrown in the trash.

According to the IGSU since the beginning of 2025, 170 fires caused by negligence while smoking have been recorded, as a result of which 38 people died.
