Carelessness while smoking caused a fire in a house in the Ceadîr-Lunga district

in the evening of November 25, 2025, at 9:54 p. m., firefighters from the south of the country were alerted to a fire in a house in Tomai village, Ceadîr-Lunga district. According to the recorded information, thick smoke was observed inside the house, and the owner managed to get out of the room on his own.

Two crews of rescuers and firefighters intervened on the scene. The fire broke out in a room of approximately 4 m², where the mattress of a bed burned completely.

following the investigations carried out by IGSU specialists, it was determined that the fire most likely broke out due to imprudence while smoking. Numerous cigarette butts were found carelessly discarded in the room and the owner used to smoke inside the room.

in this context, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations warns people that ignoring the safety rules while smoking can cause various risk situations. Rescuers urge the population to avoid smoking indoors, especially near combustible or easily flammable materials.

Furthermore, it is important that lit cigarettes are not left unattended. To prevent fires, it is recommended that they be completely extinguished in an ashtray with a little water before being thrown away.

According to the IGSU, from the beginning of 2025, 168 fires caused by negligence during smoking were registered.
